4.1 Navachetana

About the project

The Navachetana project is being implemented in Tumkur and Hassan districts.The project aims at creating prosperity in the villages by providing financialassistance to the needy families. In Tumkur district, Tiptur andChikkanayakanahalli talukas and in Hassan district, Arasikere taluka werecovered for the project support. Financial support from banks is routed throughSHGs formed in the project villages. Family intervention plans (FIP) for eachfamily was prepared in consultation with the families. Resources available withthe families, skills, labour availability and economic returns of the activityselected etc. are being assessed before recommending the family for financialsupport. Financial support to start economic activities is provided through theformation of Village Prosperity Centers (VPC).


Totally seven VPCs are functioning in two districts. Each VPC providesservices to 25-30 villages within the radius of 10 km. During the year, 48 SHGshave got bank linkages which have availed Rs.150.3 lakhs as loan from banksrepaying the loan regularly.


4.2 Parimochana

The Chitrapur Math in Bhatkal taluka, Uttara Kannada district has supportedthe project titled “Parimochana”, to improve the economicconditions of the families residing around the villages in the vicinity ofMath.


The project is under implementation in nine villages, in Bhatkal taluka ofUttara Kannada district. There is scope to extend the project to another 25-30 villages.


  • To create additional employment opportunities for the resource poor families through land based and income generation activities through providing microfinance.
  • To build capacities of the community through exposure and training.
  • To build peoples organizations and sustain them for the future management and maintenance of the project interventions.



  • During the year 114 families have been supported to start income generation activities, Math has supported 21 families and federation has supported 24 families in the form of revolving fund.
  • So far 1085 families have been given financial support from inception of the project.
