2.1 Samruddhi Project

About the project

The project titled- Samruddhi has been sponsored by Deshpande Foundation.The project activities were started during 2007 and continued in a phasedmanner.

Location

Samrudhi project is under implementation in 18 villages spread over inShiggaon and Savanur Talukas in Haveri District, Kalaghatagi and Hubli Talukasin Dharwad District.

Objectives

  • To enhance the livelihood base for the farmers through promotion of integrated farming systems in dry lands.
  • To create alternative livelihood opportunities for the resource poor families.
  • To increase the sustainability of the farming system through improved productivity.

Progress

During the year 470 families from 18 villages have been covered. And 658 haof land is covered.

2.2 Farm Forestry Promotion – ITC project

About the project

The farm forestry project has been sponsored by ITC Limited under MissionSunhera Kal. The project activities are under implementation in Mysore andHassan Districts.

Location

The project is under implementation in villages located in Mysore, Hassan,Tumkur districts.

Objectives

  • To encourage research in the field of social development and natural resource management.
  • Design and implement better development models with greater impact on socio-economic status of poor families.

Progress

During the year 1234 families from 111 villages have been covered. And 768ha of land is covered.

2.3 Jalajeevani Watershed Development Project

About the project:

The Jalajeevani watershed project is sponsored by K.K. Malhotra and VaishnoMal Malhotra Public Trust, Mumbai.

Objectives

  • To improve the productive potential of the degraded lands through systematic land treatment activities based on watershed principles. The activities were initiated with effect from April 2013. Following are the main components of the project.
  • Systematic soil and water conservation activities.
  • Training, exposure visits and awareness programmes.
  • Model school programme.

Location

The Jalajeevani watershed development project is under implementation in 10villages belonging to Savanur taluka of Haveri district.

Progress

During the year 112 families from 10 villages have been covered. And 157haof land is covered.

 

2.4 Afforestation of waste land at Gokak Forbes Limited

About the project

Since 1983, BIRD-K has been engaged in greening of the vast patch ofdegraded land belonging to Gokak Textiles Limited, Gokak, Belgavi district. Thearea located near to the factory has been developed with plantation of varioustree species. Plantation activities were completed in 250 hectare. Over 16 lakhseedlings of multipurpose tree species have been planted since inception of theproject.

Progress

During the year, 4500 plantations have been done.

 

2.5 Bayers – Integrated Rural Development project

About the project

Integrated Rural Development project is sponsored by Nunhems India PrivateLimited (Bayers). The project started during April 2015 and planned for 3years. In the project, the major components are Tree Based Farming, Peoplesorganisation, Quality of life, and Livestock Development centre.

Location

The project will be implemented in 10 villages in Yelburga Taluk in KoppalDistrict.

Salient features of the project

  • Integrated trees and other perennials into the farming system
  • Developing underutilized and sloping lands into productive assets
  • Combining livelihood activities having different gestation periods
  • Emphasis on sustainable farming practices
  • Creating local knowledge base and management capacity through training technicians, activity groups and farmer organizations
  • Integrating efforts to improve the quality of living along with increased incomes

 

2.6 JK Tyres - Natural resource management – Bilikere project

About the project

This project is sponsored JK Tyre and Industries Ltd. The project startedduring July 2015 and planned for 3 years. In the project, the major componentsare Soil and water conservation, Tree based farming, Training and exposure,Quality of life, and Peoples organisation..

Location

The project will be implemented in 4 Villages from Halebeedu GP and 2villages from Manuganahalli GP of Hunsur Taluk in Mysore District.

Objectives

  • To harvest the rain water to augment the ground water table.
  • Increase sub surface moisture through in situ harvest of rain water
  • Build people’s organizations for sustainability of the programme.
  • Enhance livelihood options for better income.

 

2.7 Savayava Bhagya Yojane

About the project

Savayava Bhagya Yojane (SBY) was supported by Department of Agriculture,Organic

Farming Cell, Government of Karnataka. It was planned to cover 100 hectarein each block.

The major activities include different composting methods likevermicomposting, Japan model composting, botanical preparations for the controlof pests and diseases, preparation and application of liquid fertilizers likejeevamrutha, mixed and multiple cropping systems, fodder promotion, promotionof bio digesters, azolla cultivation, and collection of cattle urine as analternative for urea. The fourth phase of the project was started w.e.fFebruary 2014.

Location

The fourth phase of the organic farming project is under implementation in37 villages covering 12 districts viz. Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Mysuru, Hassan,Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Belagavi, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, andChamarajanagara.

Objectives

  • To motivate and support the farmers to adopt organic farming practices in one hactre each in the selected villages.
  • To facilitate certification of the area, crops and marketing of the organic produces.

 

Progress

Over 3215 farmers have got the project support for adopting organic farming practices in one hectare each. About 3921 hectares land is under the process of conversion into organic farming methods.
