Live stock development programmes

Scope

Rearing of dairy animals is getting much significance as an alternative livelihood in these days as the livestock rearing is the second major livelihood option after agriculture. Over 40% families in the world are depending on livestock based livelihoods. In spite of the importance of livestock for the rural economy, most livestock owners are unable to tap the potential of this industry. This is due to lack of technical support services and inefficient backward and forward linkages.

Objectives

  • Create awareness among farmers’ especially weaker sections about improving the local cattle and buffalo breeds.
  • Upgrade dairy animals for enhancing productivity and reproductive performance.
  • Promote nutritional and heard management practices.
  • Popularization and conservation of indigenous breeds.
